The Jewish People
The Jews are a very aggressive
and vocal minority in the world. Due to their assertive and uncompromising stance
on any issue that involves them, it is difficult to say anything that will not bring accusations of bias or arouse undesirable
reactions in the Jewish reader. There is no point, however, in discussing only
that with which everyone agrees.
As a product of many centuries
of persecution and of their consequent migrations, the Jews learned to live off the people amongst whom they settled. While not fraternizing with their hosts, they tended to seize any opportunity to amass
the best of everything for their families, regardless of the cost to others. They
zealously protected their racial purity, religion, taboos and ancient landmarks.
Historically and geographically,
their standards and inherent racial attitudes combine Eastern and Western cultures.
Their approach to truth and honesty and to the use and possession of money is different in their treatment of fellow
Jews as opposed to gentiles. Because of their nepotism and business methods, the Jews instill distrust and disgust in their
non-Jewish neighbors.
Proud descendents of the Adamic
lineage, the Jews are a highly intelligent race. Normally well-educated, Jewish people gravitate to occupations in commerce
or the professions. While materially acquisitive, they have a great sense of
the beautiful. They are patrons of the arts.
Many are great philanthropists. It is sad that this accomplished people
have stirred up so much contempt in the world.
The major factor in the self-imposed
alienation of the Jew is his religion, which teaches separation. God is the God
of the Jews. The Jews are God's chosen people.
Their physical purity and their well being are of paramount importance to Jehovah.
Further, their Jehovah is jealous of their contacts and interest in any other God or people. The Jews have been scrupulously
obedient to these requirements throughout their history. This ancient problem
of the self-imposed Jewish isolation has disturbed the peace of countries through the centuries.
If the world is to know peace,
the Jews must cease their policy of demanding that everyone else makes all the concessions. The Jews must acknowledge their
role in generating the dislike of their neighbors.
Modern Slavery
Worldwide
in 2002, as many as four million men, women, and children were bought, sold, transported and held against their will in slave-like
conditions. In this modern form of slavery, slave traffickers use threats, intimidation and violence to force victims into
prostitution or to labor under conditions analogous to slavery for the traffickers’ financial gain. Slave traffickers
often smuggle victims into foreign countries.
Bonding is the most common methods of enslaving. A person gives
his bond with his labor as the means of repayment of a loan or money given in advance. Worldwide, millions of bonded laborers
are caught in a cycle of debt forcing them to work in conditions that violate their human rights.
Children are bonded or forced to work in factories, as soldiers or domestic laborers, on plantations, in domestic servitude,
as street beggars, or in commercial sex work. An estimated 179 million children
are in the worst forms of child labor, with more still working full time at the expense of their education, leisure and personal
and social development.
Women and girls are married without choice. They are forced into a life of servitude, often marked by physical violence.
People are bought and sold as chattel. They are inherited or given as gifts.
Even their organs are removed for sale to people seeking organ transplants.
In countries
with chronic unemployment, widespread poverty and a lack of economic opportunities, traffickers use promises of higher wages
and good working conditions in foreign countries to lure people into their networks. Unlike drugs, trafficking victims can
be re-sold and used repeatedly by traffickers. The United States is principally a transit and destination country for trafficking
in persons. According to a 1997 estimate, some 50,000 women and children are trafficked annually into the United States for
sexual exploitation alone.
People living in poverty have always
needed to migrate to find work, but current laws make it difficult for people to do this legally. To prevent the trafficking
of human beings, its root causes such as poverty, gender discrimination, and inequality need to be addressed and measures
taken to provide more opportunities for people to find work at home and abroad.
Enforce existing laws. Article 4, of the Universal Declaration of Human
Rights declares: “No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery
and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.”
Prosecute traffickers and impose
sentences that reflect the serious nature of the human rights abuses committed. Trafficked people are often treated as criminals
rather than victims. They are prosecuted, detained, or imprisoned for crimes
relating to their being trafficked. Frequently, prosecution fails because victims
refuse to give evidence about their trafficker for fear of reprisals. It is the responsibility of governments to ensure that
trafficked people are not treated as criminals.
No mortal who seeks to do the divine will can engage in the oppression of fellow mortals. Riches derived from the forced
labor of oppressed mortal man are a moral curse and a spiritual stigma. An enduring civilization cannot be built upon the
practice of defrauding the laborer of his wages.
Creationism versus Evolution
A bitter argument is taking place amongst school boards in America today. The debate centers around whether science students should be taught that God created the world and man
as described in the Old Testament Book of Genesis or whether everything evolved as Darwin
theorized.
This argument is nonsense because God created the universes of time and space and initiated evolution. The depiction of creation in Genesis is, however, a tale for the lesser schooled minds
of many centuries ago.
Neither the Old Testament or the dated science of
Darwin are proper approaches to the study of creationism
or evolution.
Everything is energy but life itself. Life is the animation of some pattern of matter,
mind, or spirit energy. The biological unit of material life is the protoplasmic cell. The cell is a communal
relationship of chemical, electrical, and other basic energies.
Life does not originate spontaneously.
Plans for life are formulated. Life flows from the Trinity. Overseers of the seven super universes channel life through
the super universes to the local universes where vitalization of the lifeless patterns occurs.
Matter begins spinning at the required revolutions in accordance with the physical, chemical, and electrical specifications
of the designated plans and patterns. (There are more than one million cosmic
chemical formulas, which comprise the original life patterns.)
Biologic evolution achieved human levels on Earth a
little more than 993,400 years ago. Evolution spurs every living organism with an insatiable craving for ever-greater perfection
of environmental or organic adaptation. The effort towards an augmented life never ends. It is evidence of an
innate striving for perfection.
Religion must embrace science. The fundamental truths of Christianity are scientific truths.
As science continues to penetrate
further into the field of intangible yet real phenomena, it will discover that the dense and concrete do not exist. Science will find that there is only one substance present in nature, which exists in varying degrees of
density and of vibratory activity. All atoms regardless of their state of evolutionary
development are related.
Similarly, the phrase, "All souls
are one with the Supreme Over soul," embodies a basic and essential piece of information.
Progress will be slow until people realize that there is a living relation between all conscious beings (universal
brotherhood).
Some people view a wider horizon than others do. They can see the unity underlying diversity.
Others are prone to think that their outlook and interpretation is the only one. The man who is only interested in
the scientific aspect, and who confines himself to the study of those manifestations which are purely material, is just as
much occupied with the study of the divine as is his religious brother who only concerns himself with the spiritual side.
Biology
students must learn the largely mathematical facts of 21st-century science.
Physicists have discovered
that the atom is not the simplistic mass Newton believed it to be. Rather, the
atom is a complicated quantum arena accessible only through mathematics. So too, biologists are realizing the cell is not a simple lump of protoplasm, as Charles Darwin
believed. The cell is comprised of tens of thousands of proteins arranged in intricate algorithms. Each cell stores information
in DNA codes that it processes and replicates in three forms of RNA and thousands of supporting enzymes. All of the cells in a human body are constantly supplied with energy.
Humans are intelligences who have
reached the balance between Spirit and matter. Man is a compound of spirit and matter.
Intelligence links spirit and matter in man.
Mind spirits determine the course
of organic evolution. Evolution is purposeful and not accidental.
Evolution is creativity in time. The time lag provided by evolution makes creature participation in divine creation possible. Mankind' design enables him to evolve by the technique of experience. As the cosmic consciousness of mortal
man expands, he perceives the interrelatedness of material science, intellectual philosophy, and spiritual insight.
Lawyer Ethics and Discipline
Ethics for lawyers is different
from ethics for non-lawyers. Lawyers have a written code, the Rules of Professional
Responsibility, which they must follow to maintain a practice.
To defend a client whom the attorney
knows is guilty, the Rules of Professional Responsibility require the lawyer to do things that most people consider unethical
and immoral. If a client confesses to a murder and tells his lawyer where the
body is, the attorney can be disbarred for revealing this information.
The defense attorney's duty
of advocacy for their guilty clients drives lawyers to bad conduct. Lawyer ethics
sinks to what the wiliest lawyers will do to win cases. Lawyers often turn trials
into courtroom theater where race, sex, and "spin" replace evidence, facts, and truth.
One of the primary tasks of
lawyers is to guide their clients around the boundaries of the law. They advise
their clients how to avoid the consequences of breaking the law by pointing out areas of the law that are not enforced or
where small penalties make the risk of citation insignificant.
Obstruction, obfuscation, and delay
are primary tactics for lawyers. Billable hours often matter more than merit.
The result is America’s legal system offers zealous representation for those who can afford it and inadequate representation
for those who cannot.
Large multinational law firms
use prolonged, expensive "discovery wars" to win the majority of cases without coming to trial or the public's attention.
Lawyers have turned victim’s
class action suits into massive monetary settlements and jury awards that they retain for themselves. Actual victims may receive compensation in the form of coupons for future product purchases.
The system for disciplining lawyers who victimize clients is laughable. Recent American Bar Association statistics show 93 percent of attorney discipline
cases lead to no punishment. When imposed, discipline is insignificant.
The public views many lawyers as more culpable than the criminals they defend
and prosecute.
Solution
Strip the bar associations of their role in regulating their
own behavior. Establish a non-lawyer commissioner for legal service complaints. The commissioner's would scrutinize
the bar associations’ complaints-handling process, impose deadlines for action on the associations, and fine the bar
association if they fail to meet the imposed targets.
Demand that those with the
power to affect change (judges, bar leaders, and politicians) champion reforms.
Open up the lawyer disciplinary system by abolishing gag rules, replacing private reprimands with public
discipline and releasing disciplinary histories.
Environmental Ethics
Americans (and much of
humanity) regard themselves as the most vital component of the universe. This
human-centered philosophy is the root cause of much of the planet’s unfolding ecological catastrophe. To halt the environmental devastation and live harmoniously with nature, people must recognize that nature
has an intrinsic value apart from its usefulness to humans.
Managed by corporations, science and technology
operate on the belief that nature is for exploitation and profit. The credo that science and technology should be used to
control, manipulate, and exploit nature has been a threat to both human and nonhuman nature in the scientific development
and indiscriminate use of technology such as nuclear power and toxic chemicals.
Humans need to protect themselves,
other living species, and their habitats, from such irrational thinking.
Solution
Understandably, people want to
rationalize away the insult of their behavior upon nature. Acid rain, the contamination
of soil, water, and air, deforestation, the depletion of the ozone layer, and the greenhouse effect have been the ecological
consequences of technical and social rationalizations.
All life is interrelated. Anthropocentrism (human-centeredness) is a misguided way of seeing things. Men need
to develop a less dominant and aggressive posture towards the Earth if the planet and humans are to thrive.
Man must learn to identify
with all of the kingdoms of nature. This will involve a radical change of consciousness, but it will make man’s behavior
consistent with what environmental science tells us is necessary for the well being of life on Earth. Just as sane people
do not practice self-mutilation, people should not mutilate the planet.
Brotherhood recognizes the intrinsic
values of all living beings, and views humans as just one level in the web of life.
Man’s evolving brothers in the lesser kingdoms are just a little behind him.
Politics, science, and economics
must evolve to a new role as cooperative mechanisms with an ecologically ethical content.
Presently, ownership of land by
man bestows privileges without ethical obligations. Ownership of land must require
a responsibility for the soil, discharges into the air and ground water, surface streams, and the plants and animals upon
the land.
Getting Beyond War
Not
even counting the cost in human lives, the destruction of the environment, and the low quality of life in war zones, the monetary
cost of war alone has become too expensive to be viable.
There are more wars fought now than at anytime
in the past. This is due largely to the fact that the manufacturing nations are
building military weapons at an ever-increasing rate for state and corporate profit at a devastating cost to people and the
environment.
America’s debt, which has been accumulated
through tax cuts, escalated military spending, and a minimal level of social service expenditures has turned the U.S.
from the world's largest creditor nation into the world's largest debtor.
Historically, war has served valuable
purposes. In the past, war has been indispensable scaffolding in the building of civilization, but it is now culturally bankrupt. Waging war no longer produces dividends of social gain in any way commensurate with
its terrible losses.
While very alike, murder (a personal
affair) and war (a tribal or national affair) differ in their social status. While
forbidding murder, mankind as a whole, does not outlaw war.
The
manner of fighting war is also ranked on a social level. President Reagan observed
that since a nuclear war cannot be won, it could not be fought. The threat of
retaliation makes nuclear weapons unusable and therefore obsolete. While still posed as a threat by ambitious minor powers,
they are losing their effectiveness even as a tool of foreign policy.
America and the world must learn to live within the idea that we are part of one system.
All must coexist in that system. There is no individual survival without
collective survival.
World security is greater than national security.
America must redefine its concepts of security, standard of living, and quality of life in terms of fairness and justice for
all humanity not just Americans.
Since
doomsday weapons are obsolete, an intelligent society should consider all forms of modern warfare equally obsolete.
America needs to think in terms of sensible investments in the future. America’s
leaders need to learn that there is a difference between running a deficit to buy something that will pay off generously in
the future and running a deficit to procure items and resources that have no long term value.
War is an animalistic reaction
to misunderstandings, irritations, and bullying tactics. Peace graces civilized solutions to all such problems and difficulties.
The day will come when men will look back at the pre-war
centuries and wonder at their blindness and be shocked at their selfish and materialistic past.
Sexual Maladies
The situation regarding sex in America and the world today is extremely critical. The mores of sexual customs and practices, with their consequences and status, bewilder
the finest minds.
Because sex is a topic where prejudices overrule intelligent dialogue, sexually
based maladies, such as divorce, abortion, prostitution, sexual perversion, and pornography, are difficult to discuss.
Each person is convinced that their particular point of view regarding sexual
practices is right. This is because they themselves live and act in accordance
with their belief, and it meets their particular needs.
Sexually based mores are also difficult to broach because of the excessive
intimacy of the subject. Even though the sexual urge is the dominant factor in
the animal aspect of man, sex became prurient when man imposed a puritanical view upon this natural function. Consequently, decent people shun the topic of sex.
Sexual prejudices and the reluctance to deal openly with sex-based maladies have
lead to widely divergent attitudes, laws, enforcement of laws, and social tolerance.
America seems immersed in a stupor of lax morality that baffles its citizens.
Many American communities host prostitution, which is a compromise between cruel
tendencies and unsatisfied desires. Divorce and the rulings of divorce courts
devastate the life of the family and in time undermine the national life of which each family unit should be a wholesome part. Further, there is a steady growth of sexual diseases, which is the result of America’s
promiscuity.
Many groups of people seek to impose their own ideas and solutions for sex-based
maladies (e.g., abortion) upon their fellowmen.
Unfortunately, there is no immediate solution to the problems of sex-based maladies.
For ages, men have misused and wrongly employed this God-given function. Through
laxity, license, and lack of control, men have inaugurated an era of mental and physical disease, wrong attitudes and illusory
relations that will take many years to eradicate.
Many social blunders, evil consequences, perversions, and sadistic cruelties
have grown out of man's misuse of the natural sexual process. The search for
solutions has presented many theories. While all of the theories have some measure
of truth, they also expose the depths of man's ignorance.
Vice has a profound medical and physiological aspect, whether it is the vice of
promiscuity or an unhappy marriage. Man must clear his mind of the false and
illusory views that prevent him from seeing truly.
Subsequent essays and prescriptions shall attempt to shed some measure of light
upon America’s sexual maladies.
Jesus refused to comment on divisive social issues. He did not want to
lay down rules for a relatively primitive evolving civilization that might impede progress.
The physical results of sexual intercourse alone, carried on within or outside
of the legalized marriage relation, have produced much of the disease, the insanity, the evil tendencies, and the perverted
impulses that today fill prisons, hospitals, and asylums.
Marriage and Divorce
Monogamy, polygamy, and
promiscuity have dominated in different societies in different areas of the world through the ages.
Each of these behaviors is an interpretation
of the sexual relationship between men and women. Each has been normal
and right according to the location, the tradition, training and attitude of the people who practiced it. Each has also been
the subject of attack, defense, horror, and dispute.
Traditionally, marriage is a precondition for starting a family. Since
the family is the building block of society, marriage serves not only the interests of the man and woman, but also the interests
of their children and the community of which they are a part. The primary
functions of the family are reproductive, economic, social, and educational. It
is through family that the children initially absorb the culture of their group.
In Jewish, Muslim and Christian
societies, marriage has been a prerequisite for sexual intercourse. Fornication
was discouraged or even criminalized. Adultery was often criminalized, especially in the case of women.
Western cultures disapprove of
bigamy and adultery, but accept divorce and remarriage. This has led to the practice of serial monogamy, which is comparable
to polygamy practiced in other societies. Moreover, while a man may legally have
only one wife, romantic adventures may provide many sexual relationships. Today,
both men and women may be sexually active outside the marriage relationship.
Divorce rates have increased markedly
during the twentieth century. Divorce is commonplace in the United States, Japan, Korea and Europe. In addition, acceptance
of the single-parent family has resulted in many women electing to have children outside marriage.
When the Western nations began
to grant women equal rights with men for the ownership of property, the control of children, and divorce, basic changes took
place in the structure of the family. The effect has been to loosen traditional family ties.
Governments have intervened
to modify the authority of parents over their children. Education has shifted increasingly from the home to the school. In
Western Europe, where legislation provides equal financial benefits and legal standing to all children, families increasingly
consist of one or two unwed parents and children.
Mothers in industrial communities are often employed outside the home leaving childcare to others. This is the source
of many social problems such as divorce and juvenile delinquency.
In America, women are normally
the financial victims of divorce due to the lack of equal pay for equal work. Women often have the burden of raising their
children alone. Collection of child support is a major problem, as some fathers do not accept any financial obligation for their children. State or local government usually provide welfare for divorced mothers and
their children.
Men too are financial victims of divorce due to court-ordered alimony and child support. Many men lose custody of their
children or the opportunity of seeing their children when mothers relocate.
Responding to the oneness
of divinity, evolution nudges men’s thoughts and desires towards monogamy. On
Earth, men have resisted monogamy. In the past, women have been more inclined
to monogamy than men, but are less now that birth control methods are freeing women from the risk and pain of childbirth.
In time, man’s thoughts
will shift to a higher mental plane as they align with the urgings of the soul. At
present, man's physical plane realizes very little of the spiritual exhortations seeking external response.
Men
and women should seek the highest earthly service in monogamous marital relationships as parents engaged in the intelligent
birthing and training of children. In the creation of children, parents become copartners with the Makers of heaven
and earth. The relationship of a man and woman embracing the highest ideals of time is an experience worthy of any price or
sacrifice necessary for its possession.
When individuals feel the mental
vibratory response to each other more distinctly, marriage problems will disappear.
Wrong mating will die out.
Man’s mistaken attitude
towards sex threatens the existence of humanity itself. Over-indulgence in sex
relations have always resulted in over-population. The result of over-population
has brought about an economic situation of such a drastic and serious nature that the peace and stability of the world are
threatened.
Nor is sterility a cure. If sterility should become a universal practice,
it too would lead to a gradual disappearance of humanity. The loss of human population
leads to the increase and dominance of animal life. Earth would suffer a period
of regression.
Abortion
Many races learned the technique
of abortion. The practice became common after the establishment of a taboo on
childbirth among the unmarried. For many ages, it was the custom for an unmarried maiden to kill her offspring. Many primitive clans nearly exterminated themselves by the practices of abortion and infanticide.
Today in America, abortion refers to the voluntary or induced
termination of pregnancy through the using surgical procedures or drugs. Since 1972, the medical definition of pregnancy requires
that implantation has already occurred. Implantation is the process by which a fertilized egg implants in the uterine lining. (By this
definition, emergency “day after”contraceptives do not interfere with pregnancy.)
Controversy arises when people believe
that conception occurs before implantation. Some people argue the zygote (a cell formed by the fusion of sperm and an egg) qualifies as a human being before pregnancy actually
starts.
Others argue that both the use of birth control pills and emergency contraceptive drugs
are immoral.
Abortion is now a political issue in the United
States. The controversy started in 1973, when the Supreme
Court ruled in favor of abortion in the case of Roe vs. Wade. Specifically, the court ruled that states could not forbid a woman to terminate her pregnancy in the first
trimester of her pregnancy.
The pro-choice feminist movement maintains reproductive rights must remain free from
the interference of men, other women, the state, or the church in the decision of whether a woman may have an abortion.
The Feminists for Life are the primary group advocating both for feminism and against
abortion. This movement renounces violence in general, and connects their opposition
to abortion with opposition to war, violence and animal cruelty. In addition,
many religious groups (Catholic and Protestant) oppose abortion.
Judgments of individual instances of abortion must allow for the primitive evolutionary status of present humanity.
Until man can lift himself as a species to a higher level (essentially those endorsed by the Feminists for Life) his
laws must accommodate coarse distinctions.
This civilization will fail to understand love, God, and creation as long as it continues to
squabble over issues such as:
Whether legislators can force women to bear and raise children they cannot afford,
Force teenagers to bear children they are not emotionally prepared to deal with,
Condemn victims of rape and incest to carry and nurture the offspring of their assailants.
Men will never solve the problems of justice by establishing laws and regulations.
Mankind must first recognize every man as his brother. The dictates of justice,
honesty, and fairness must guide every individual in the administration of social justice.
In the interim, apply justice with mercy proportional to circumstances not with sweeping all-inclusive pro-life or
pro-choice laws.
Christ is not on the side of cruelty, aggression and the slaughter of the defenseless.
A refusal to think or the shirking of individual responsibilities will not save the world.
As the Universal Father loves and forever seeks the welfare of his created sons
and daughters, so true parents love their mortal children. There is nothing more
tender and beautiful in mortal experience than the parent-child relationship.
Children who die too young to have Thought Adjusters (before age five) are resurrected
on the first mansion world simultaneous with the arrival of either parent or foster parents. A child acquires physical entity
at mortal birth, but for spiritual survival, children without Thought Adjusters are still attached to their parents.
The relationship of child and parent is fundamental to the essential concept
of the Universal Father and his universe children. Parental experience is indispensable to the experiential training of all
ascenders.
Perversion
In human thinking, sex is
the word used to denote the relation between men and women that results in the reproduction of the species. In America and much of the world, sex often denotes the alluring satisfaction of the animal impulses at
any cost and without regulation.
In reality, sex is an expression
of duality, and of the separation of a unity into two halves. These two halves
are spirit and matter, male and female, positive and negative. They are a return
step upon the evolutionary ladder towards unity. This unity of sexuality or homosexuality
is not related to the perversion called "homosexuality" today.
The word homosexuality now applies
to a distorted attitude of mind that results in ancient unclean physical practices.
Their antiquity rebukes the idea that these practices mark a step forward on the path of progress. Rather, they mark a point of retrogression.
Sexual perversions occur when
a civilization is crumbling. Such changes are cyclical. They happen when different combinations of the Seven Adjutant Mind Ministers impose their energies to force
evolution along its path.
The impact of the revised energies
upon humanity awakens in man a desire for that which is, for his age, a new and untried field of expression. Weak minds and some strong experimenting souls fall victim to their lower natures. They experiment in wrong directions. Under the cadence of
the new energies, there is forward progress into new and untried spiritual realms, while simultaneously there is regressive
investigation into the realm of physical desire.
As the world of forms responds
to the inflow of the higher energies, their effect is to stimulate all parts and aspects of form life. Temporary evil and
lasting righteousness both emerge. By prostituting energy to material ends, such
as the expression of physical plane sexual relations for purely material objectives, evil rather than the divine energy of
brotherly love will result.
Sexual perversion in many men and
women comes from an overly active imagination, a powerful sex nature, and a prurient curiosity. This accounts for many of the sodomites and lesbians. Such
men and women must strive to exchange their physical impulses for spiritual energies.
Sexual Diseases
Worldwide, the family unit
is being broken up. This is due not only to wars and the contemporary views concerning
marriage and divorce, but because of the horrors of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.
Sexually transmitted infections are diseases that are commonly transmitted
between partners through some form of sexual activity, normally vaginal intercourse, oral sex, or anal sex.
All sexual behaviors that involve contact with another person or the bodily fluids of another person
contain a risk of sexually transmitting diseases.
All parents should provide sex education for their children. In
addition, sex education in the primary and secondary schools, while segregated, must be the same for both sexes. This will eliminate many of the detrimental attitudes towards sex and sexual practices.
Creativity on Earth expresses itself mainly through propagation. This
is part of the divine Plan. Even though men and women have prostituted their capacities and debased their relationships, the
basic plan is divine. After an individual’s re-birth in Christ, the entire sex relationship shifts gradually into its
proper place as one of the normal and correct appetites.
Rebirth in Christ results in a higher experience. Instead of male and
female, there emerges the magnetic relationship between the newly negative personality and the positive soul, with consequent
creativity upon the higher planes. The personality becomes soul-infused.
Erotic Desire
Mortals are responsive to energies from the physical world (which controls the animal appetites); the emotional world
(which determines the feelings and aspirations that men express and pursue upon the physical plane); and the lower mental
plane (which develops self-will, selfishness, and the path of the life upon the physical plane).
With growth, men become responsive to the soul, the reflection of the divine intention, the spiritual counterpart of
eroticism.
The instinct of man towards the soul eventually opens the door to the higher cosmic energies of which sex is a symbol.
The energy of eroticism provides
man with too little imagination, understanding, knowledge, beauty, achievement, or desire to renounce comfortable habits.
Often, the images present in the
human mind are the result of desire generated by commercial media.
The personality of the individual
is the effective result of his desire.
Individuals consumed with
erotic desire must formulate two new activities. First, the person must transcend
the desires for sensuous stimulation that he finds within himself. Secondly,
he must insulate himself from the allure and influence of the streams of mind images that exist in the collective mind transmitted
by the media.
Energy makes a man what he
is at any given moment. It also indicates the plane on which he should function,
and the method whereby he should govern his environment and relationships. Upon realizing this, he will realize that he has
to shift his whole attention from the physical and the emotional planes on to the mental levels.
As his attitude, attainment, and
comprehension shift to ever-higher levels, he will constantly change and respond to newer energies. He will be willfully introducing
the new higher energies into his life.
The desire for beauty carries away unstable erotic thoughts.
A person cannot live without desire. Even the spirit incarnates by desire. Desire
can be worms or wings.
Sex Education
Young people, especially
the idealistic types, do not know what to think or believe about sexual practices in America.
They observe homes consecrated by marital vows and find only unhappiness. They
may witness married partners seeking illicit relations, neglected and unwanted children, and the friction produced by wrong
mating, and divorce.
In looking at the lives of
people who avoid marriage, they find frustration, secret sex lives, ill health resulting from the thwarting of the sexual
impulses, illegitimate children, and sexual perversions.
The sexual education of youth
teaches them to avoid practices that will impair their health or lay the burdens of children on them.
The virtues of sexual abstinence
are extolled. They may find themselves deluged by puritanical injunctions, platitudes,
and unsatisfying explanations, based often on personal prejudice.
For most, the anticipation of heavenly
rewards fails to offset the temptations of the outer world and the unrelenting sexual urges.
Some youths withstand the
temptations of the flesh. Their advanced souls permit a life divorced from the
animal nature.
Few youth advisors speak with real
wisdom and understanding of the universal sex problem. None of them comprehends
the true significance of the sex life, its place in the great scheme of things, and the reason for the relation between the
sexes.
Education, sexual or otherwise,
must begin by raising the cultural level of the community.
Raising the cultural level will
require the eradication of many of today’s social pleasures. The products of science are for education and the advancement
of civilization, not amusements, war, and vulgarity. The use of lewdness and profanity in public media is irresponsible. It should be severely penalized.
The instruction of children should
begin in the cradle by turning their attention to the useful and the attractive. Tutorage that enhances the attractiveness
of goodness is best.
It is not necessary to fictionalize
life for children because of presumed non-understanding. Science is appealing
and dazzling. In science, the young sense infinity.
All phases of art must be included. There can be no education without beauty.
Teach the young cooperation.
The Meaning of Sex
Today, man is living in a
period of the world's history when types of cyclical energy that have been latent are gaining in potency again. In the initial stages, the response of the world to these energies is material. In the final stages of this cycle, divine qualities will manifest changing history and civilization.
An outburst of sexual activity
amongst humanity throughout the entire world will occur during the early phases of this cyclical change. Due to the modern
understanding of birth control methods, the increase in sexual relations will not produce any increase in population.
In time, the ideas on marriage
and sexual relations will change. This will occur due to economic pressures and
the failure of the legal machinery to safeguard the family unit.
With global interest and discussion,
men shall work towards a solution to the sexual problem that today exists only subjectively.
Acceleration of this action is necessary.
Healing the sexual malady will
bring true equality between the sexes and protect the family unit. Children will
receive the essentials for proper physical growth. True education will lead to
emotional unfolding along sound lines, and the consequent mental development will enable each child to serve his race, time
and group to the best advantage.
Vice and virtue have no relationship
to man’s capacity to conform to man-made laws, but rather to his attitude towards himself, God, and his fellowmen.
Virtue is the manifestation
in man of the spirit of cooperation with his brothers. Cooperation necessitates
unselfishness, understanding and complete self-forgetfulness. Vice nullifies
this attitude.
When the relation of the two sexes
is no longer purely physical but is a union of the two separated halves on all three planes (physical, emotional and mental),
the sex problem will be solved. With the fusion of the three parts of the personalities,
there is a true union, a real marriage, and a blending of the two marriage partners into one.
The two words, love and sex,
depict the relation, the interplay and the union between God and His universe, man and God, man and his soul, and between
a man and a woman.
Love is ever productive and fruitful
in its results. When spirit and matter meet in time and space, the universes
manifest. When an individual man and his soul come together, the Christ is born. When an individual fuses with his Thought Adjuster, man and spirit attain true oneness
in personality. Sex symbolizes all these wonders.
Marriage
and Divorce
The family is the essence of the philosophy of life
taught by Jesus. He exalted family life as the highest human duty. He noted, however, that the earthly family relationship does not survive mortal death. The greater brotherhood of man family concept will replace the earthly family.
While exalting marriage as the ideal and highest of all human relationships, Jesus disapproved of lax divorce practices. He denounced any flaunting of marital responsibilities noting the injustice to the
innocent spouse and children. Jesus only approved of those practices that accorded equal treatment to both women and men.
The increasing tendency to divorce among modern couples
is attributable to the fantasized romance surrounding modern courtship. In this
time of changing mores, unrealistic expectations for marriage is further complicated by women's greater personal freedom and
increased economic liberty. Easy divorce, accompanied by the lack of ordinary personality adjustments (self-discipline) is
regressive for a civilization.
Divorce is necessary as a safety valve to prevent even
worse social situations. High divorce rates will continue as long as youthful
idealism is the only criteria for entrance into marriage and society fails to provide adequate premarital training.
In the more advanced civilization of the future, marriage
and divorce laws will be uniform throughout the nation. Marriage will not be permitted before couples reach voting age. Licenses
to marry will be granted only after a year's engagement, and the couples have completed instruction in parenting schools. Such schools will teach the responsibilities of married life. Grant divorces only after one year of separation.
In the premarital schools, model
parent/teachers will demonstrate how life can be lived divinely. They will express the highest ideals of marriage and exhibit
the true reasons for the propagation of mankind. They will show all life is one life in the vast scheme of divine manifestation. They will portray a life style of moderation with supportive understanding.
Through growing knowledge, the
present mismatching of couples will pass away.
The
Profit Motive
It was the Monday following the Sunday of Jesus’
quixotic palm branch strewn entry into Jerusalem. He would be crucified on Friday. Jesus was attempting to instruct his followers in the courtyard of the temple
in Jerusalem. Exasperated by the cacophony of bellowing cattle and the shouting of moneychangers, merchants, and livestock
dealers in the house of God, Jesus paused and stepped down from his teaching dais.
Taking a whip of cords from a lad who was driving nearly
one hundred young bulls through the courtyard, he drove the animals from the temple grounds. He then opened the gates of every
stall and drove out the animals intended for sale and sacrifice. Expressing their long repressed indignation at the rampant
commercialism and desecration of the temple, the crowd began to overturn the tables of the moneychangers. They swept all commercial
enterprises from the temple within a few minutes.
In the dramatic cleansing of the temple, Jesus revealed
his stance on the commercialization of religion, his abhorrence of unfair profiteering at the expense of the poor, and his
disdain for deceitful men who establish themselves behind political, financial, or ecclesiastical power for the exploitation
and oppression of people whose interests they are meant to protect and govern.
While the profit motive of economic activities is wholly unworthy of an advanced order of society, it is indispensable
through the early phases of civilization. Profit motivation is necessary until men adapt nonprofit motives for economic striving
and social serving. Today, money remains the instrument of man's selfishness. It must become an instrument of altruism.
The Eye of the Needle
“For it is easier for a camel
to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God”
(Luke 18:25).
Money is a form of energy often
misdirected to the selfish aspirations and ambitions of relatively few people. Eventually, the achievement of brotherhood
will require the redirection of the energy inherent in money from concretized divine energy into channels of light.
When asked how he would manage
wealth, Jesus volunteered that he would bestow material wealth for the
enhancement of material life, just as he would minister knowledge, wisdom, and spiritual service for the enrichment of the
intellectual life, the social life, and the advancement of spiritual life.
When asked for specifics, Jesus said he would first organize the assets into the ten different methods through
which material wealth is amassed, as follows.
Inherited Wealth
The steward of inherited
wealth must determine the original sources of the wealth. Cease any dishonesty or injustice involved in the unfair accumulation
of wealth by the prior generations. Disburse any portion of inherited wealth derived through fraud or unfairness in accordance
with justice and generosity. After subtracting a fair toll for the benefit of
the present generation, transmit the remainder of the legitimate inherited wealth in trust to the subsequent generation.
Discovered Wealth
(riches derived from the natural resources of the earth)
Anyone who enjoys
wealth because of a discovered natural resource should make adequate provision for the sharing of these discoveries in helpful
ways by the largest possible number of his fellow earth dwellers. While the discoverer is entitled to some reward for his
efforts of discovery, he should not presume to lay claim to all of the advantages and blessings derived from recovering nature's
resources.
Trade Wealth (riches
obtained as a fair profit in the exchange and barter of material goods)
As long as men choose
to conduct the world's business by trade and barter, they are entitled to a fair and legitimate profit. The fairness of trade
and the honest treatment accorded one's fellows in the organized business of the world create many different sorts of profit
wealth. Judge all these sources of wealth by the highest principles of justice,
honesty, and fairness. The honest trader should not hesitate to take the same profit that he would accord his fellow trader
in a similar transaction. When business dealings are conducted on a large scale, such honestly accumulated wealth endows its
possessor with a sizeable voice in its subsequent distribution.
Unfair Wealth (riches
derived from the unfair exploitation or the enslavement of one's fellows)
No mortal who seeks
to do the divine will can engage in the oppression. Riches derived from the forced labor of oppressed mortal man are a moral
curse and a spiritual stigma. Restore all such wealth to those robbed or to their children and their children's children.
Interest Wealth (income
derived from the fair and just earning possibilities of invested capital)
Honest wealth is entitled
to interest. As long as men borrow and lend, that which is fair interest may be collected provided the capital loaned was
legitimate. Cleanse capital before laying claim to the interest. Do not stoop to the practice of usury. Do not employ the
power of money to gain an unfair advantage over struggling mortals.
Genius Wealth (riches
accruing from the rewards of the creative and inventive endowments of the human mind)
Wealth secured through
the personal endowment of genius or inventiveness owes something to ancestors and progeny.
The endowed person is also under an obligation to the race, nation, and circumstances of his inventive discoveries. The genius is entitled to a fair and just share of the wealth.
Accidental Wealth
(riches derived from the generosity of one's fellows or originating in the circumstances of life)
Except for the just
and legitimate fees earned in administration, no man should lay personal claim to that wealth which time and chance may cause
to fall into his hands. Accidental riches should be regarded somewhat in the light of a trust to be expended for the benefit
of one's social or economic group. Accord the possessors of such wealth the major voice in the determination of the wise and
effective distribution of the unearned resources.
Stolen Wealth (riches
secured by unfairness, dishonesty, theft, or fraud)
Restore any portion
of a fortune knowingly derived from fraud, dishonest or unfair methods to the rightful owners.
Trust Funds (wealth
placed in one’s hands for some specific use, now or in the future)
The trusteeship of
the wealth of one person for the benefit of others is a solemn and sacred responsibility. Do not jeopardize such a trust.
The trustee may retain only that which honest men would allow for management of the trust.
Earned Wealth (riches
derived directly from one’s personal labor, the fair and just reward for one’s own daily efforts of mind and body)
That part of a fortune
that represents the earnings of personal mental and physical effort (if done in fairness and equity) belongs to the earner
of the wealth. No one may deprive a person of holding and using such wealth as he may see fit provided the exercise of this
right does not harm others.
Any doubt about the distribution of material wealth, should favor those
who suffer the misfortune of undeserved hardships.
Sustaining Cultural
Growth
The growth of culture
requires continual improvement of the tools of civilization. The tools man utilized in his ascent from savagery were effective
only to the extent that they released manpower for the accomplishment of ever-higher tasks.
Modern mortals are
riding upon the shoulders of people who labored untold ages for achievements now considered elementary. These advances in
human civilization were the taming of fire, the domestication of animals for agriculture and transportation, the enslavement
of captives to perform labor-intensive tasks, and the concept of private property, which stimulated men to greater personal
effort. Without these basic tools and their evolution into science, machinery, government, and economics, man could not have
risen from his primitive state.
On normal worlds,
the various colored races are blended and then biologically uplifted through unions with the descendants of Adam and Eve. Culling the inferior and unfit specimens occurs before any racial blending, however.
The Planetary Prince, Adam, and other planetary authorities pass upon the fitness of the reproducing strains.
Accomplishment of
the screening of inferior people failed due to the rebellion of Lucifer and the collapse of Adam and Eve’s reign on
Earth. The difficulty of executing such a program on Earth today is due to the
absence of competent authorities to judge the physical, mental, and spiritual fitness or unfitness of individuals. Still,
society should be able to agree upon standards to deny the privilege of procreation to the markedly defective, degenerate,
and antisocial stocks.
Removal of the cultural
impediment of poverty can never happen if the financial support and reproduction of the defective and degenerate stocks continue.
Some of the most promising
civilizations of Earth (for example, the Greek and Roman) deteriorated because their superior people procreated freely with
inferior humans thereby diminishing the gene pool of superior people.
Another mistake advanced
cultures make when seeking to spread their superior culture is to allow the invasion of illegal immigrants into the country. Better alternatives are to send teachers into the backward nations or to invite the
best of the backward people into the country, educate them, and return them as emissaries of culture to their countrymen.
Many mortals alive
today and living in a setting of a modest culture have the advantage of some spare time in which to think and act to improve
society. Such opportunities should not be squandered.
Morality
Many people confine their concept
of morality to sexual practices. Some think sexual celibacy is required to live
a life compatible with spirit. Actually, moral celibacy demands abstinence from
all evil. Good character, high ethics, and spiritual aspiration are minimum moral
requirements.
As civilization has
progressed, religion has resolutely continued to overemphasize the goodness of God while ignoring truth and beauty. Many good people have turned away from religion because of its obsession with goodness. All truth (material,
philosophic, and spiritual), all real beauty (physical art or spiritual symmetry) and all genuine goodness (whether personal
morality, social justice, or divine ministry) are equally true and beautiful. Health, sanity, and happiness of a person rely
on the integration of truth, beauty, and goodness brought together in human experience.
Law or force can never
advance morality. Morality is a personal and freewill matter. Morality spreads
through the contact of moral persons with those who are less moral, but who desire to do the will of the Father.
This is a world of
mortal infancy. It is a single link in the long chain that stretches across universes
and ages. What mortals learn in this first life is not as important as the experience of living. The work of this world is
not as important as the manner in which the work is done. There are no material rewards for moral living. A satisfaction transcends any conceivable material reward.
The present planetary crisis is
so grave that those advanced in their moral evolution are having their evolution accelerated. Responsive mortals are being
trained by their angelic overseers as unconscious transmitters of ideas from the higher planes.
Awaiting the Kingdom
In the three days following Jesus’
crucifixion, the Apostles suffered a hopeless despair brought about by a loss of confidence in themselves and their prestige. Their leader, Jesus, had been discredited, convicted of treason, and punished as an
agitator. Their cause and their reason for existence had evaporated.
On Easter morning, their hopes
revived. Christ had risen. The
Apostles now expected the immediate establishment of God’s kingdom on Earth.
The last two thousand years
have proved the Apostles were overly optimistic. The Apostles failed to understand the slow process of evolution.
The reason for the delay
of Christ’s second coming and the establishment of the kingdom of God on Earth is that his followers have not done their
work. Christ’s promised return to Earth depends upon the demonstration of better human relations. Much time has been
wasted.
In their zeal to make Christians
of converts rather than followers of Christ, the churches themselves have hindered progress towards peace on Earth. The Christian
churches have emphasized their theological doctrine and the gospels of the fiery Paul, not the love of the peaceful kingdom
builder of Nazareth.
Altruism
At the present stage of
evolutionary development on Earth, man is intelligent, but he demonstrates very little love.
While he may possess love for family and immediate friends, he knows little about group love. Humans respond favorably to the concept of group love. They
feel it is something they would like to see realized. As man begins to think
more altruistically, the more he will be building something of incredible value.
In this age, small numbers of people
are oriented towards the higher spiritual and altruistic values. Most of humanity
focuses on material things. Their aims are selfish, animated by ambition, and
the spirit of acquisition.
One of man’s greatest
instruments for growth is language (the word). Speech is the most mystical manifestation
of the supernatural in existence. It is a channel of creation and a medium for
energy. The man who speaks with altruistic purpose distributes the energy of
love. Love is the force that preserves, strengthens, and stimulates.
Altruism is essential to the
realization of brotherhood among men. The man, who has spiritual
intuition, wholesomeness of life and motive, self-control and courage, and altruistic intention, is a conscious collaborator
in the work of evolution.
It is not altruism to bestow futile sympathy upon unsalvageable and inferior
mortals. There exists sufficient difference between individuals and social groups to provide altruistic sentiment and unselfish
ministry without perpetuating the socially unfit and the morally degenerate strains of evolving humanity.
